Too Cute Teabag Card Tutorial

Hello, guys! Before I get too far into this post, I want to send a shout out to my good friend, Trudy. I talked to her last night and she was sick. It seems a lot of people are coming down with the flu and just random winter "yuck". Get better soon, Trudy! Sending healing thoughts to her and to all of you who are feeling that winter crud right now.

Onward to crafting! Today, I have a cute project for you. It's a card that holds two teabags. It doesn't really take that much in the way of supplies either. This time of the year is a perfect time to send a little tea to those you love (or even to those you just "tolerate". I won't tell ;) ).

That's the finished product. How cute is that? It can be adjusted for pretty much any occasion depending on what stamps and paper you have handy. Here is the list of what I used for this little project.
  • 1 solid piece of cardstock. 3 1/2 by 7 3/4
  • 1 patterned piece of cardstock/paper. 6 1/2 by 7in
  • 1 patterened piece of cardstock paper 1/2in by 3 1/2in
  • (the cardstock I used in this project was from the Clementine paper pack)
  • Scoring Tool. I use the Martha Stewart one
  • Strong adhesive.
  • 8 inch piece of coordinating ribbon
  • 2 small brads
  • 2 small eyelets (optional)
  • Hole Punch. (I used the crop-a-dile)
  • stamps and ink of choice. (I used chocolate ink and stamps from the Tea Time and A Sip sets
  • a piece of a sponge for inking the edges (optional)
  • misc embellishments to decorate your card
  • 2 teabags or small wrapped chocolate squares (like the Ghiradelli ones)

Step 1: Put your 3 1/2 x 7 3/4 piece of cardstock on your score score tool long ways (the long end is butted up against the top of the score area). Score at 3 1/2 and 4 1/4.

Step 2: Take your piece of patterned paper and put it on your score tool so the 6 1/2 long side is butted up to the top of the score area.  Score at 1/2 and 3 1/2

Step 3: Fold your score lines so they are nice and crisp. Put adhesive on the underside of the 1/2 fold section of the patterned paper. Fold the paper over and secure it down with the 1/2in piece with adhesive I messed this up in the photos and had to go back and re-do. Gotta love photographing your mistakes. LOL. You're basically making a flat paper tube here.  I went back and took a photo after I fixed it although I had already glued it down to the solid piece so my seam shows. oops. On the finished product, the recipient won't notice. It just bugs me more than anything.

Step 4: Take your patterned paper sleeve and line it up with the 1/2 mark on your score tool. Score at 3 5/8. Mine did not have a mark for that, so I think my marks were more like 3 3/4.

Step 5: Flip your paper around 180 degrees and score again at 3 5/8 (or in my case, it was closer to 3 3/4). Fold your score lines

Step 6: Put adhesive along the "spine" of your patterned paper tube that sort of looks like a little book at this point. Center it on your solid cardstock piece and push down/smooth to adhere. ( please ignore the fact that my tube isn't glued shut. This photo was taken before I fixed it. I'm a mess :)

Step 7: Take a hole punch, piercing tool, cropadile or whatever you use to make holes in paper. I used the little punch side on the Crop-a-dile with the guard pushed all the way in. Punch two holes one on each end of your spine. You can sort of eyeball it here. Measuring? What's that? ;)

Take your two little brads and place them through your holes and then separate the little prongs. This will make sure your pieces hold together.

Step 8: Take one piece of patterned paper 1/2in by 3 1/2in and adhere it to your spine, covering up the brad prongs. See? All nice and neat now. Aren't we fancypants?

Step 9: Take  your hole punch/crop-a-dile/paper piercer and make a hole on each side of your little brown tea book-looking thing. (These will be used to thread a ribbon for closure)

Optional: set two eyelets in the holes (1 in each hole, of course). This adds a bit of a finished look and it strengthens the holes.

Step 10:  Thread a ribbon through the holes. See? This is how our little tea card will stay shut!

Now you are pretty much done except for embellishing/decorating. The direction beyond this point just apply to my particular card. Make yours any way you want!

I cut a white piece of cardstock at 3in x 3in. I cut a piece of cardstock from the Clementine paper pack at 2 3/4 in by 2 3/4in. I used a border punch on one side of the smaller piece of cardstock.

I then took my handy dandy Chocolate ink pad and stamped one of the teapots from the "Tea Time" stamp set and the words "Time for tea" from the stamp set "A sip" (which happens to be on the retiring list, so I recommend purchasing it asap if you plan on getting it) on the smaller cardstock piece. Gotta love being able to see through your block and stamps.

I also stamped the words "You warm my heart" from the Just a sip set and the little flowers from the "Tea party" set on another piece of white cardstock (for the inside of my card). I then took a piece of sponge and my chocolate ink pad and inked all the edges of all the pieces Even the "book" itself. I've told you guys in a previous post that I am an inking addict. I just like the way it looks and it's so easy to do. I really want to do a tutorial on inking the edges but as you can see. It's pretty much impossible to hold the camera and ink an edge at the same time. I have a webcam but I tried making a video on it once and the quality was yuck.

Here is what the inside of my card (weird mistake seam and all) looked like. I left the white part so I could write a message to the recipient of this card. You could also add another white piece to the other side if you need more writing room. I also put the two teabags into their slots.  You can also use those small, flat, wrapped chocolate pieces. Ghiradelli.  Yumyum. Of course , then the tea stamps wouldn't make sense but you know what I mean. It's versatile!

All cute, finished and ready to send off to that special someone who needs a pick me up. Well, I can't send wine in the mail so this will have to do. If you make this, I would love to see your finished projects so send 'em to me!
